HiKorea Appointment Reschedule: How to Move, Cancel, or…

8분 읽기

Your appointment date just broke.

Maybe your manager moved your shift. Maybe your university set a midterm for the same morning. Or maybe you picked the wrong task type when you booked. Now you’re on the HiKorea reservation page, looking for a button that says “change date.”

There isn’t one.

That surprises almost everyone the first time. Rescheduling a HiKorea appointment doesn’t work like moving a hospital or bank booking. The order of your steps decides whether you keep a spot, lose a week, or end up close to your stay expiry date. If your visit is for an ARC (Alien Registration Card) renewal or a stay extension, you could lose more than a wasted morning. ARC renewal Korea

Why can’t you just change the date on HiKorea?

HiKorea’s visit reservation system books one fixed slot: one immigration office, one date, one time, and one task. It has no edit function. To reschedule, you cancel the existing reservation and then book a new one. Until you cancel, the old slot stays linked to your name and passport details, and nobody else can use it.

How to cancel your current reservation

The English and Korean menus use slightly different labels. The path is the same:

  1. Go to HiKorea and log in to your account.
  2. Open the Visit Reservation menu.
  3. Choose the option to check or cancel an existing reservation.
  4. Find your booking by date and office. Confirm the details match.
  5. Click Cancel and confirm. Take a screenshot of the result.

Here’s the catch

If you cancel first, you give up your slot before you have a new one. If the calendar is packed, you could lose a date you really needed. So change the order. Look at the calendar first. Find a realistic new date. Then cancel and book right away.

Don’t plan on holding two bookings for the same task. Assume you get one active reservation per task, and move fast between the cancel and the new booking.

So what happens if you skip the cancel step completely? That’s where people get into real trouble.

The cancellation policy people read too late

You can cancel a HiKorea visit reservation online before the appointment time, and it costs nothing. Booking is free, and so is cancelling. The released slot goes back into the calendar for another applicant. The trouble starts when your appointment time passes and you still haven’t cancelled. At that point the system counts it as a no-show, not a cancellation.

A few rules make this easier:

Why does the timing matter so much? Because of what happens after a missed slot.

What a no-show penalty really costs you

A no-show means you booked, didn’t cancel, and didn’t come. HiKorea’s reservation notices warn that people who miss appointments without cancelling can be limited in future bookings. The exact rule appears on the reservation screen, so read it before you confirm. For most people, though, the bigger cost isn’t a booking limit. It’s the time left on their permitted stay.

Your booking doesn’t stop the clock

This is the part many people miss. Holding a reservation is not the same as applying. Your permitted period of stay keeps running whether or not you have a slot. The Immigration Act is available in English through MOLEG. It says clearly who must act and when:

“Where a foreigner intends to continue to sojourn in the Republic of Korea beyond the permitted period of sojourn, he/she shall obtain permission for extension of the period of sojourn from the Minister of Justice… before such period expires.” (Immigration Act, Article 25)

Read that closely. Your deadline is the expiry date. It isn’t your appointment date.

Picture this. Your stay ends on the 10th. You booked the 5th and missed it. The next open slot is the 18th. Booking the 18th doesn’t protect you. If you file after your stay expires, you can be fined under the Immigration Act. Violations can also count against you in later visa decisions. late extension fine Korea

Waiting to see what happens only makes it worse. Every day you delay leaves you fewer options. The next section shows how to fix it.

Rebooking after a missed visit, step by step

If you’ve already missed your visit, act the same day. Log in to HiKorea, confirm the old booking is no longer active, and book the next open slot. If that slot is after your stay expiry date, call the 1345 Immigration Contact Center right away. Also check whether you can file your task online instead of in person.

Follow this order:

  1. Check your expiry date. You’ll find it on your ARC or in your HiKorea account. Write it down.
  2. Look for the next slot. Open your office’s calendar. Note the earliest date.
  3. Compare the two dates. If the slot comes before your expiry date, book it now.
  4. If it doesn’t, call 1345. The Immigration Contact Center offers help in English and several other languages. Explain that no slot is open before your expiry date. Ask what your office accepts.
  5. Check e-application. HiKorea’s jeonja minwon (electronic civil application) service handles some tasks online, including stay extensions for certain visa types. If your case qualifies, you may not need a visit.
  6. Re-check your documents. A new date can push some papers past their validity window. You may need to reissue certificates that show an issue date, like an employment certificate (E-7 workers) or an enrollment certificate (D-2 students).

Workers on E-7 or F-2 status often attach tax documents from the National Tax Service. Check the issue dates on those too.

Some tasks never needed the immigration office

Some tasks don’t need an immigration booking at all. To report a new address, you can usually go to your local jumin center (community service center). You can find your center through Government24. Reporting there frees up an immigration slot for someone whose task needs an officer.

What if the next open slot is still weeks away? You still have one option: same-day openings.

Where same-day slot availability comes from

Same-day slots appear when other people cancel. Cancelled reservations go back into the calendar, so a fully booked office can show an opening hours later. If you check several times a day, you have a real chance of catching one. One limit applies. Your registered address decides your office, so you usually can’t switch to a quieter office across town.

Why you can’t just pick a quieter office

Korean immigration work is divided by gwanhal (jurisdiction). Your registered address decides which office or branch handles your case. That’s why the HiKorea calendar may only show you certain offices. If you book an office outside your jurisdiction, it may turn you away at the counter.

Habits that improve your odds

Checking again and again is tedious. It’s also the only free tool you have.

Your next move before the slot disappears

Start with your expiry date, not the calendar. If you have time, find a new slot, cancel the old one, and book right away. If you don’t have time, call 1345 today and check e-application on HiKorea. Keep screenshots of every cancellation and booking. If an officer or the call center asks what happened, those records help you explain.

A quick checklist before you close the tab:

The same timing rules apply to status changes, like D-2 to D-10 or D-10 to E-7. F-6 spouses and F-4 overseas Koreans booking a renewal follow them too. D-2 to D-10 status change

Check first. Cancel second. Rebook right away. Follow that order, and you won’t be fighting the system.

자주 묻는 질문

Q

Can I change my HiKorea appointment date without cancelling?

No. HiKorea's visit reservation system has no edit function for the date, time, or office. You must cancel the existing reservation and book a new one. Check the calendar for an open date before you cancel, so you don't lose your slot with nothing to replace it.

Q

Is there a no-show penalty for missing a HiKorea appointment?

HiKorea's reservation notices warn that people who miss appointments without cancelling can be limited in future bookings. The exact rule appears on the reservation screen before you confirm. The bigger risk is time: your permitted stay keeps running, and filing after expiry can lead to a fine under the Immigration Act.

Q

How does rebooking after a missed visit work if my visa expires soon?

Book the next open slot on HiKorea right away. If that slot is after your expiry date, call the 1345 Immigration Contact Center and ask what your office accepts. Also check whether you can file your task through HiKorea e-application. Immigration Act Article 25 requires you to apply for an extension before your stay expires.

Q

How can I find same-day slot availability at my immigration office?

Same-day openings appear when other applicants cancel, because cancelled slots go back into the calendar. Check the HiKorea calendar several times a day, stay logged in, and have your passport and ARC numbers ready. Your registered address decides your office, so you usually can't switch to a different one.

Q

Does HiKorea charge a fee to book or cancel an appointment?

No. Booking and cancelling a visit reservation on HiKorea are free. Some tasks, such as extensions, have their own application fees, and you pay those separately when you apply. Anyone selling guaranteed reservation slots is not part of the official Korea Immigration Service system.
